Elize About ~ The importance of skincare

As a Health and Skincare therapist, I have sadly seen some very neglected skins over my career. I don’t think I entirely looked well enough after my own skin until I started noticing some changes when I reached my thirties, only then did I really and truly learn to appreciate the undeniable value of a good skincare routine.

With the increased level of pollutants and free radicals we are exposed to everyday, facials and a good home skincare routine are an important way to protect and maintain the health of our skin, but above all, to keep it in a healthy and radiant condition. Having regular facials is one of the best things I can recommend to keep your skin looking and feeling its best.

Why are facials so important?

Besides promoting relaxation, having regular facials have many benefits, including delivering noticeable improvements to your skin tone, texture and appearance, deeply purifying pores and fighting against free radicals which is one of the major causes of premature ageing.

How often should I have facials?

It is generally recommended to have facials every 4-6 weeks to maintain healthy skin, but it is also really important to have these sessions in order to have your skincare therapist monitor your skin on a regular basis, ensuring that you are using the correct products for your skin’s needs. Your skin is seasonal meaning that it responds to seasons, this is where your skin will need different nutrients, minerals and other important ingredients to keep it in great condition. Of course other factors such as hormones, stress and poor diet are also major contributors to one’s skin and this is where your facialist will be advising you on the most suitable products to use in between treatments.

What makes skincare brands so special these days?

With continued innovative product breakthroughs, most skincare brands allows for precious ingredients to deeply penetrate the skin, resulting in skin gaining the many benefits they have to offer. From the wide variety of brands out there, the likelihood that you will come across a poorly performing skincare brand is very low. Why? Because the global competition is huge. Each brand has their own philosophy and something special about them and it really is worth paying for quality skincare. While traditional facials have always involved removing dead skin as part of aiding cellular renewal, in the past number of years, the approach on creating products that not only exfoliate and deeply cleanse, new foundations of skincare now can, through stimulation, encourage the skin’s natural recovery process of collagen and elastin. These days facial techniques are so unique in it’s specifically tailored routine and this especially applies to the massage techniques being used, encouraging oxygen release by improving skin’s circulation, thus enabling deeper penetration of essential ingredients into the dermis. This, in turn, helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving skin a smoother and firmer apperance as well as improving facial contours.

What about home skincare?

As part of your home skincare routine, it is a good idea to consider purchasing the products recommended by your skincare expert to receive the overall benefit of a balanced skincare regime. Following a consulation with a skin analysis and carefully discussing your concerns and needs, your therapist will be able to advise you on the most appropriate products for ongoing use. It is essential to use these products between facials as it is most important how you look after your skin at home.
