Elize About – Galvanic Treatments

When I was studying at the beauty academy back in 2001, one of the subjects we covered was electrical treatments. This subject covered 4 main forms of electrotherapy namely Galvanic, Faradic, Microcurrent therapy and High Frequency.

Beauty professionals will know especially about all these electrical treatments, but most consumers have probably never heard of it before. This is because this particular technology had been given many different names over the years as different machine brands. But it still comes back to the same technology. Have you ever used one of those at home muscle contracting devices? That is Faradic. Have you ever had a treatment called Mesotherapy? That is Galvanic. Have you ever heard about a treatment by a machine called Caci? That’s Microcurrant. Companies have been able to use this technology and put their own name on it. And why not? It works and takes care of skin concerns and body contouring needs very effectively.

Today I thought to talk about Galvanic current and what makes it such an effective tool to use in your skin and body care routine, enabling you to receive the most benefits from the products you use.

WHAT IS GALVANIC AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Galvanic treatment has been used in the beauty industry since the 1970’s. Also known as galvanism, the treatment aims to improve the skn in three ways:

  1. Cleansing – this process is called desincrustation
  2. Nourishing – through an electro-chemical process called iontophoresis (this is called ionisation)
  3. Absorption- allowing effective absorption of products into the skin

Galvanic treatment is mainly used on the face for skin purifying and anti-aging purposes through pre-treatment and conductive gels infused with beneficial ingredients. On the body it is used to treat cellulite and also loss of firmness and elasticity by encouraging collagen production.

Effectiveness is achieved by the application of a small, constant, direct current to the skin and works on the basis that charged ions in the skin will either attract or repel from the electrodes. Galvanism works by penetrating active substances into the subcutaneous tissues, where ineffective circulation gets improved in the vascular and lymphatic interchange in the area. This is completed in a natural and harmless way and is aided by the actual effect of the galvanic current on the tissues. On the body this improves the function of the cellular membrane and allows trapped fluid and fat to be broken down and eliminated, improving the firmness and tone of the skin.

A few months ago I came across a homecare device called the Galvanic Spa and looked further into the benefits of having this item for home use, not just for myself but also for my clients. I am a great believer that what you do at home with your skin (in-between professional treatments) is very important.

After having had a demonstration of the device and the products on my face, I was blown away by the results achieved in only 10 minutes. So I purchased one for myself and later decided to become an independent distributor of the Galvanic Spa as well. And I have no regrets. Using this device twice a week makes a remarkable difference on one’s skin. Not only does Galvanic current cleanse and purify, it also allows for approximately 80% more absorption of the benificial ingredients from products into the skin. After having performed demonstrations and facial teatments on my clients, they will agree with this statement.
